Whether you’re playing rock, blues, country, pop, metal or jazz, the bass guitar is an essential part of any composition and ensemble. That’s why our selection of bass guitars for sale covers a vast range of playing styles and genres of music, from a classic Fender Precision Bass to a high-performance Ibanez. Whether you need an electric bass guitar, electro-acoustic or acoustic bass guitar, we’ve got you covered.
For specialist bassists, we also offer a great selection of 6/8 string bass guitars, fretless basses and for lefties, a range of left-handed bass guitars to suit.
We stock all the most popular and best-selling bass guitar manufacturers, including Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Squier, Yamaha, Music Man and more.
If you’re just a beginner looking to start out with the bass, we can help you find a model that’ll be comfortable to play, affordable and make you feel like a rockstar. In addition, we can help pick out any essential bass guitar accessories you might need to get the most out of your new instrument, such as guitar strings, pedalboards, guitar amps, guitar stands, guitar straps, and guitar cases.

Is bass guitar easier than guitar?
Bass guitars and six-string guitars require different skill sets and the perceived difficulty depends on the individual. Generally, bass guitar has fewer strings and you usually only play one note at a time, which can be easier for beginners than the chord shapes you learn when playing the guitar.
Because the bass guitar’s role resides between the guitar and the drums, it demands a strong sense of rhythm, timing and the ability to create a groove that supports the band.
How much does a good bass guitar cost? How much does a good bass guitar cost?
The cost of a good bass guitar varies based on brand, materials and construction quality. Beginner bass guitars can range from £100 to £300, while intermediate and professional models can range from £300 to over £1,000. Affordable instruments are constantly improving when it comes to tone, features and build-quality, making it easier than ever to start playing.
Which bass is good for beginners?
Should a beginner get a bass guitar?
Yes, if you’re interested in playing bass, a beginner-friendly model is a great investment. Bass guitar is an essential instrument in many music genres and can be a rewarding and enjoyable instrument to learn and play. Short-scale bass guitars that have shorter necks can be easier to play if you're complete beginner, have smaller hands or are transitioning from playing the six-string guitar.
Can you play bass without an amp?
Whilst you can practice bass guitar without an amp, it’s far from ideal. An electric bass guitar unplugged will lack the low-end depth and response of playing through a bass amplifier. If you want to properly develop your touch and tone, we recommend practising with an amp, whether that’s a portable bass practice amp, a bass combo or head and cab, whenever possible.
What brand of bass is the best?
There is no definitive “best” brand, as it depends on personal preference, budget and playing style. Some popular bass brands include Fender, Squier, Gibson, Epiphone, Sterling by MusicMan, Ibanez and Yamaha. It’s important to try out different brands and models to find the right fit for you.
Start by looking at what models of bass guitar your favourite bassists use, both live and on your favourite recordings by them. If they use a Fender Precision Bass and you’re just starting out, a Squier version will offer authentic looks and tone at a more affordable price.
How long does it take to learn the bass guitar?
The time it takes to learn bass guitar varies for each person and depends on factors like previous musical experience, practice time and dedication. With consistent practice, beginners can expect to see progress within a few months. Mastering the instrument can take years of dedication.
Can you strum a bass?
While bass is typically played by plucking or fingerpicking the strings, it is possible to strum a bass. Flea of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers strums the bass to achieve a thicker sound on songs such as “Don’t Forget Me” and “Snow”. However, this technique is less common and may require some adjustments in playing style and technique to achieve a clean, consistent sound.
Is it better to play bass with a pick or fingers?
The choice between using a pick or fingers for bass playing is subjective and depends on the desired tone, genre and personal preference. Picks generally produce a sharper, more defined attack, while fingers offer a warmer, rounder sound. To be a well-rounded bassist, it’s worth learning and mastering both techniques.
